Nakshatra in its Rashi Environment
The 1st pada lies in Simha (Leo) and padas 2, 3 and 4 in Kanya (Virgo).
The nakshatra lord is the Sun. The Sun is itself the lord of Leo, while Mercury is the lord of Virgo. Sun and Mercury are friends. (This creates a natural Budhaditya yoga environment.)
In the first pada, under the Sun's full influence, they display royalty and the pride of authority. In the padas falling in Virgo, under Mercury's influence, they use their authority for public service, analysis and the medical field.
Real-World Duties & Professions
- Social workers and administrators of NGOs
- Doctors, nurses and healers

- Teachers, professors and counsellors
- Auditors and accountants (owing to the influence of Virgo)
- Public relations officers (PROs)
They act as the bridge that steadies bonds in society (marriage/friendship), and as the tree that gives shelter to others.
The medical field, social service, and education.
Special Astrological Notes
Lips, left hand, intestines. Digestive diseases, blood pressure and joint pain may occur.
Manushya gana. Bharadwaja gotra. This is the finest nakshatra for marriage alliances (the marriage of Sri Rama and Sita Devi itself took place in Uttara Phalguni).
This is a 'fixed' nakshatra. It is therefore excellent for auspicious undertakings that need long-term stability, such as house-warming, coronation, joining a job, and marriage.
According to the Brihat Samhita, "subhago vidyaptottara phalgunyam" - meaning those born in Uttara Phalguni earn great wealth through learning, are loved by all, and lead a happy life.
