This is a 'Kshipra' (light/swift) nakshatra. It is a blend of tamas (Saturn's influence) and sattva guna.

Nakshatra in its Rashi Environment
This nakshatra lies entirely within Karkataka (Cancer). The sign lord is the Moon (mind, mother) and the nakshatra lord is Saturn (karma, discipline).
Because of the natural enmity between the Moon and Saturn, they restrain their emotions and give the highest place to responsibility. The mind (Moon) is always directed by dharma and karma (Saturn). This brings a maturity beyond their years.
This is the finest environment, adding divine wisdom (Brihaspati) and hard labour (Saturn) to the maternal feeling of Cancer.

This is very important - Pushya is not fit for marriage. (The scriptural dictum: 'vivaheshu na shasyate'). Because it is the nakshatra that cursed Shiva at the time of the marriage of Parvati and Parameshwara, it is not used for marriage. (Gotra: Kashyapa).
Apart from marriage, it is the finest for all other auspicious undertakings. In particular, when Pushya falls on a Thursday it forms 'Guru Pushya yoga', which is highly auspicious for buying gold and for new businesses.
According to Varahamihira, natives of Pushya are wealthy, of calm nature, learned in the shastras, and respected by all.
